Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2023:– The Prime Minister of our country, Narendra Modi, has started Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2023 Scheme on June 22, 2015, with the aim of providing their own pucca (पक्के) houses to the people experiencing homelessness, kutcha houses and slum-dwelling families living below the poverty line. The government has divided this scheme into two parts. The first part of which is Pradhan Mantri Urban Housing Scheme, the second part is Pradhan Mantri Rural Housing Scheme. Through which a target was set to construct 4 crore pucca (पक्के) houses in the country by March 31, 2022.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2023
Families belonging to EWS, LIG and MIG Group Income are benefited by the Central Government under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). So far, 58 lakh pucca (पक्के) houses have been constructed by the PMAY Urban Sector and 2.52 crore pucca (पक्के) houses by the PMAY Rural Sector of this scheme. Earlier, the validity of providing benefits of PMAY-Shahri was fixed on March 31, 2022. Which has now been extended till September 30, 2022. Now the eligible families of urban areas will get the benefit of CLSS for construction of houses under this scheme till September 30.
Apart from this, the validity of providing benefits of PMAY-Gramin was also 31 March, which has been extended by the Union Cabinet till 31 March 2024 to meet the target of construction of 2.95 crore houses. Latest Update: Budget Increased for PM Awas Yojana
In the budget for the financial year 2023-24 regarding the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced to give more budget than before to fulfill the dream of poor citizens of the country. So that the government can provide benefits to maximum number of people under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The budget of PM Awas Yojana 2023 has been increased by 66 percent by the central government.
Presently the budget amount for the implementation of this scheme has been increased to Rs 79000 crore. This budget amount will help in increasing the number of houses. PM Awas Yojana was launched by the Government of India in 2015 to provide the benefit of housing to the poor families of the country.
In which a target was set to provide pucca (पक्के) houses to all the eligible beneficiaries by 2024. Under this scheme, the house or amount is allotted to the citizens of both urban and rural categories. So that poor citizens can get houses built through this scheme.
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana will be operated till 2024
The poor families of the country will now get the benefit of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana till 2024. This scheme was started by the Central Government in 2015 till 2022. But considering the achievements of this scheme, it has been extended till 2024. That is, the government has extended this scheme for two more years.
Under this scheme, approval has been granted for the construction of 122 lakh new houses. In these houses, the construction work of 65 lakh houses has been completed and the construction work of remaining houses is also going on fast. This scheme has been extended till 2024 so that more and more poor families can get their own house.

Part of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana
The Central Government has divided it into two parts to make the benefits of PM Awas Yojana 2023 accessible to all the poor citizens of the country. Both these parts are as follows.
Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana (PMAY-G):
Earlier this scheme was operated in the country by the name of Indira Awas Yojana. Which has been converted into Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana in the year 2016. Under PMAY-G, pucca (पक्के) houses and other facilities such as electricity supply, sanitation, water facilities and toilets etc. are provided to the poor families living in kutcha houses in the ruler area of the country.
Pradhan Mantri Urban Housing Scheme (PMAY-U)-
Through this scheme, 4331 cities and bodies were selected to provide the facility of pucca (पक्के) houses to the citizens of the urban areas of the country. PMAY-U has been implemented in the country in 3 phases.
- First phase- From April 1, 2015 to March 2017, the scheme was operated in the first phase in 100 selected states/union territories of the country.
- Second Phase – In this phase, 200 cities were covered from April 2017 to March 2019.
- Third Phase – From April 2019 to March 2022, the remaining cities have been covered in the third phase. But now the duration of this phase has been extended till 30 September 2022.
Affordable Rental Housing Scheme Under PMAY
Affordable rental housing scheme has been started under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. This scheme has been launched by the central cabinet. Because in our country, most of the people leave their city and go to work in another place, due to which they have to find a house to live. In which they have to face a lot of problems. To solve this problem, the Affordable Rental Housing Scheme has been launched by the Union Cabinet.
Through which houses will be made available to all such people to stay at low rates. Under this scheme, vacant government plots or buildings will be used. In which, along with living arrangements, water facility, electricity facility, sewer facility etc. will also be provided to the beneficiaries. About 3.5 lakh migrant laborers of the country will get the benefit of this scheme.
The government has fixed a 25-year agreement under this scheme, which means this scheme will be run for 25 years. Then later the housing areas will be handed over to the local body. By the way, it has also been decided to continue this scheme in future. If the companies provide accommodation to the migrant laborers on their behalf, then the government will encourage them and also give them tax exemption.

Objective of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana
The main objective of starting this scheme is to provide their own pucca (पक्के) house to the economically weaker, low income and low income group families of the country. Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Application Form
How many components are there in Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2023?
The scheme has four components. Through whom this scheme is being operated across the country. Which is as follows.
In-situ slum rehabilitation –
To formally bring slums into urban areas by providing houses to eligible households living in slum locations in the country. Along with this, ₹ 100000 will also be given by the central government to the families living in slums for the house.
Credit Linked Subsidy-
Through this, loans ranging from ₹ 600000 to ₹ 1200000 are made available at very low interest rates for construction of new houses or repair of old houses in the name of housewives in the country. Subsidy is also provided by the Central Government on this loan. This component promotes affordable housing for the weaker section of the society.
Affordable Housing in Partnership with Public and Private Sectors –
Through this component, families belonging to Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) are provided financial assistance of 1.5% from the Central Government. States and Union Territories can partner with their own agencies or the private sector to develop such a housing scheme.
Subsidy for Beneficiary-led Individual House Construction –
This component caters to the housing requirement of families belonging to economically weaker sections who cannot avail the benefits of the Housing Scheme 2023 under the other three components. Under this component, financial assistance of Rs 1.5 lakh is provided by the Central Government to the beneficiaries for building a new house or repairing an old house.
Eligibility for application under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2023
- It is mandatory for the applicant to be a permanent resident of India.
- Only applicants belonging to BPL category and low income group are eligible to apply under this scheme.
- The age of the applicant should be 18 years or more.
- Applicant should not have own house.
- For EWS and LIG family groups only the female head will be given the benefit of this scheme.
- No member of the poor family should have a job.
- The applicant family should not be taking advantage of any other government housing scheme.
- The family annual income of the applicants belonging to EWS should be less than ₹ 300000.
- The annual income of the family of applicants belonging to LIG category should be between ₹ 600000 to ₹ 100000 only.
- The annual income of the families belonging to the MIG 1 category should be between Rs 6 lakh to Rs 12 lakh.
- The annual income of the family belonging to MIG 2 category should be in the range of ₹ 1200000 to ₹ 1800000.
